Lot 294. Baltimore Orioles 1944 IL Championship Season Program, 2 Others and 7 Ticket Stubs. The 1944 Orioles were awarded the Governor’s Trophy as champions of the International League. It was their eighth league championship and first Governor’s Cup. The cover of the 1944 program features a color, wartime image of Uncle Sam as a baseball player. The eight-page program is scored for a game with the Jersey City Giants; vg+ to ex. Hall of Famer Gabby Hartnett, the Giants’ manger, is in the printed lineup as one of the team’s catchers. A 72-page Syracuse at Baltimore 1946 program is scored and has the date and outcome in pencil on the cover; vg+. Familiar names in the printed lineups include Sam Mele, Hank Sauer and Sherm Lollar. Eddie Robinson is among the Orioles pictured. A 72-page 1947 program is scored for a game with the Newark Bears. Gene Woodling and Lollar are in the lineup for Newark. Although undated, the ticket stubs are believed to be from the 1940s. Almost all show a small tape stain or piece of tape. Five stubs were neatly separated from the rest of the ticket and two, less so.
