Lot 266. Pittsburgh Pirates 1979 Championship Season First Day Covers and Programs. Among the programs is one for the World Series, in which Pittsburgh triumphed in seven games. The scorecards are scored for the sixth game, which Pittsburgh won. The folio with the Pirates’ scorecard is loose. Vg-ex program. Another program, with Chuck Tanner on the cover, is for the N.L. Championship Series with Cincinnati. Nm. And an nm-m regular-season program for a game with Atlanta has the Pirates team photo on the cover. A set of eight first day covers commemorates the series. No. 10 envelopes have a Memorial Stadium postmark for Oct. 9 and 17. The first game of the series was supposed to be played Oct. 9, but was rained out. Game 7 was played Oct. 18. Both envelopes show the Pirates’ mascot. A mascot sticker appears to have been added to the first, and a “Pittsburgh Pirates 1979 World Series” sticker to the second. Nm-m. No. 6 envelopes are used for the other FDCs. Each has a postmark from the ball park where the game was played. All show some soiling at the top and otherwise are ex-m. Also included is an 8.5” x 11” offset press photo of the 1960 Pirates as “National League Champions,” vg+ to ex.
