Lot 280. 1911 “Home Run Bill” Baseball Sheet Music. Jerome Shay wrote the music and Alfred Bryan, the lyrics, to this humorous and entertaining celebration of the National Game. The subject of the music is “Bill Johnson” who was “a swatter on a Bush League nine, Way down South in Caroline.” The cover artwork is by one of Starmer brothers, William or Frederick, who are widely recognized among sheet music collectors. The six pages of sheet music have been taped along the spine on the inside. The front cover displays a music store stamp, a few small edge tears and two places where pencil writing has been erased.
