Lot 492. 1980 Holtzman Press Reprint of A. J. Liebling’s Boxing Classic, “The Sweet Science.” This hardcover book is part of Holtzman’s “Sports Classics” series. In 2002, “Sports Illustrated” declared this book, a collection of essays by Liebling on boxing, the top sports book of all time. Liebling wrote extensively for “The New Yorker.” He died in 1963. His facsimile signature and brief biography are on the front endpaper of the book, which is nm-m to mint in an nm slipcover. The book has blue leatherette covers, a red grained spine and gilt lettering. Gold silhouetted figures decorate the slipcover. A letter signed by Mrs. Sugar is included; it verifies that these books are from Bert Sugar’s collection.
