Lot 522.  George Will Autographed Copy of His Baseball Book “Men at Work.” Recognized primarily for his political commentary, Will is one of baseball’s premier fans. In this 1990 first edition, he covers elements of baseball by examining four of the game’s best performers – Tony La Russa as manager, Orel Hershiser as pitcher, Tony Gwynn as batter and Cal Ripken, Jr., as representative of the defense. Will’s autograph, which is personalized, is large and bold, gem mint 10, on the title page. It comes with a note from Will’s assistant, who wrote to the person who obtained the autograph, “When I put your book in front of Mr. Will’s nose, he looked at the binding and said, ‘Wow! First edition’.” The book is ex-m, and the dust jacket, ex. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 656.  Rare Circa 1930s Mickey Mouse Celluloid Figure with a Baseball Bat. This seldom-encountered 2 7/8” figure has “Japan” impressed on the back. It appears to be hand-painted, and some of the red paint from Mickey’s bat is also on the right side of his face. There is a slight indentation on Mickey’s nose and a deeper indentation on the back of his right show.

Lot 764.  A “Baseball: The American Epic” Baseball Autographed by Ken Burns. Nm-m 8 signature by Burns, who produced the Emmy Award-winning series in 1994. It was broadcast on PBS. Kevin Keating authenticated the sharpie signature.

Lot 765.  Michael Connelly Autographed Novel “Trunk Music.” Connelly is a “Los Angeles Times” police reporter turned detective novelist. His primary recurring characters are detective Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch and defense attorney Mickey Haller. His novels “Blood Work” and “The Lincoln Lawyer” have been turned into movies. Occasionally, he appears on the TV show “Castle.” His autograph is mint 9 on the title page of the 1997 first edition hardback, which is ex-m in a similar dust jacket. The novel was a finalist for the 1998 Macavity Award and the Barry Award for Best Novel.

Lot 766.  Autographs of Actors Robert Duvall and Dave Coulier. Duvall has starred in many honored films and box office successes. He was received an Academy Award, two Emmy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards. A comedian, Coulier played Joey Gladstone in the ABC sitcom “Full House.” The autographs are nm-m 8 to mint 9 on index cards. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 767.  Chuck Jones Autographed Image of Wile E. Coyote. Jones, who passed away in 2002, was a major figure in bringing the hapless coyote, the Road Runner, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and other Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies animated characters to life. With Tex Avery and Bob Clampett, he made the Looney Tunes cartoons some of the most popular ever. Jones created Marvin the Martian, Pepe LePew, the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote. He was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won three times. His pencil signature on a 5.5” x 8.5” card showing the Wile E. Coyote is nm-m 8. It comes with the original 1992 mailing envelope from Chuck Jones Enterprises in California. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 769.  Baseball Signed by “Tank McNamara” Co-creators Jeff Millar and Bill Hinds. The fictional title character of this cartoon, which debuted in 1974, is a TV sports reporter and former NFL lineman. Story lines tend to focus on current sports issues and related social and political topics. Millar, who died in 2012, was the writer for the strip, and Hinds, the artist. Hinds has taken over writing duties. Their autographs, with an portrait illustration of Tank, are nm-m 8 to mint 9 on the sweet spot of an nm-m Rawlings “Official League” ball.

Lot 770.  Clayton Moore “Lone Ranger” Autographed 8” x 10” B&W Photo. Moore portrayed the Lone Ranger on TV from 1949-51 and 1954-57. The program was the first major hit for the ABC network. Moore died in 1999. His signature is a 10 of 10. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 771.  1971 Comic Autographed by Noel Neill, Lois Lane in Superman Movies and TV Shows. Neill portrayed the reporter in Superman film serials in 1948 and 1950 and in the “Adventures of Superman” TV series from 1953-58. Her nm-m 8 signature is on the cover of the April 1971 DC comic, No. 109, “Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane.” Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 772.  Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Autographs on a Wilson Little League Baseball. The western actors and singers signed panels on the ball. Their signatures are nm 7 to nm-m 8. Rogers was known as the “King of the Cowboys,” and Evans was called the “Queen of the West.” Rogers died in 1998, and Evans, in 2001. They made 28 western films together.

Lot 773.  B&W 8” x 10” Photo Nicely Signed by “Howdy Doody” Creator Buffalo Bob Smith. Produced by E. Roger Muir, the pioneering “Howdy Doody” children’s program was on TV from 1947-60. Originally, Smith, an announcer for WNBC Radio in New York, created Howdy as a radio voice. As the idea for the TV program advanced, he had Frank Paris make the puppet. Smith hosted the show. Smith died in 1998. His personalized autograph is gem mint 10.

Lot 774.  Photos Autographed by Lena Horne, Frankie Avalon, Eddie Fisher and Art Jarrett. Horne’s signature is nm-m 8 to mint 9 on and 8” x 10” b&w photo; Fisher’s, nm-m 8 on an 8” x 10” color photo; Avalon’s, ex-m 6 to nm 7 on an 8” x 10” b&w photo, and Jarrett’s, gem mint 10 on a 6.5” x 9” sepia photo. Horne (died 2010) was a talented theater and film actress, singer and dancer. A singer and actor, Avalon starred in Disney “beach party” movies in the 1960s and had five top 10 single records from 1958-60. The most successful pop singles artist in the first half of the 1950s, Fisher (d. 2010) is remembered for marrying Liz Taylor, Debbie Reynolds and Connie Stevens. Jarrett (d. 1987) was a singer, actor and bandleader whose greatest success came in the 1930s and 1940s. His hits included “Did You Ever See a Dream Walking” and “Let’s Fall in Love.” These autographs come with a Letter of Authenticity from Collectible Classics. Four autographs are nm-m 8 or better: Kathy Mattea, Grammy Award winning country music and bluegrass performer and global warming activist; Mark Chesnutt, country music singer who has charged eight No. 1 singles; Shari Lewis, puppeteer, ventriloquist and children’s TV show host who died in 1998; and Lisa Malosky, former co-host of “American Gladiators” and Houston sports reporter who covers the NBA and WNBA for NBC.
