Lot 560.  Mark Breland and Iran Blade Barkley Autographs. Breland’s accomplishments include five New York Golden Gloves title, a gold medal in the welterweight class at the 1984 Olympics and the WBA welterweight championship. As an actor, he has appeared in TV series and in theater films. Barkley held middleweight, super middleweight and light heavyweight titles. Twice he defeated Thomas Hearns. Breland’s signature is light on the white portion of an Everlast black and white glove. Vg-ex 4 to ex 5. Barkley’s is nm-m 8 on a red Everlast glove. Ink coverage is broad on “ley.” Both autographs are personalized. From Tommy John’s collection, the gloves are accompanied by two signed “Property of Thomas Edward John” labels. Lot 561.  Tommy John Ski Poles. After trying skiing a few times, John decided he liked golf even better than before. These Rossignol ski poles are 54” long. They come with two signed “Property of Thomas Edward John” labels.

Lot 562.  Tommy John Assortment of Publications, a Stein and Figures from Various Sports. NASCAR is among the topics covered in this collection. Robert G. Hagstrom covers the sport in “The NASCAR Way: The Business That Drives the Sport,” 1998 apparent first edition, ex-m book and dust jacket. Two NASCAR programs accompany the book, one for the 2002 Checker Auto Parts 500 and the other, for the 2006 Coca-Cola 600. Both are nm. There also is an 8” x 10” card of Mike Skinner and a Holiday Inn commemorative keycard fir the Daytona 500. A program for the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles is among the offerings, ex-m. So are two cups, a bowl and two plates from the same Olympiad. Sam the Olympic Eagle is on each item, and on the cups, he boxes and plays baseball, basketball, soccer. Ex-m. Six books are included: “The Giant Book of Sports Trivia,” Damien Christopher, 182 softcover, vg; “Sports in America,” James A. Michener, 1976 first edition hardback, vg-ex book, vg dust jacket; “Once They Heard the Cheers,” W. C. Heinz, 1979 first edition, vg+ to ex book vg dj; “Charlie Hoffar’s Sports Gems,” Bill Schroeder, 1980, vg softcover; “The Book of Sports Lists,” Phil Pepe, 1979 first printing softcover, vg; and “Great Sports Upsets 2,” Bill Gutman, 1993, g+ to vg. Other publications are: “Polo 72,” three copies, two ex-m and one vg; “Sports Illustrated,” June 18, 1973, George Foreman cover, g-vg, and Feb. 10, 1982, the “Year in Sports, “ edition, vg+ to ex; “The Sporting News,” Feb. 4, 1985, Wayne Gretzky cover, horizontal fold, vg+ to ex, and “Tennis Week,” May 19, 1983, John McEnroe cover, vg. There is a pin for the Bert Convy Tennis Tournament. A basketball stein, a signed photo, a Chicago Bulls cap and collectible figures make up another part of this collection. The stein is the 1991 Budweiser “Heroes of the Hardwood,” which commemorates the 100th anniversary of basketball. Nm-m. Travis Knight, who played for Connecticut and then in the NBA, autographed an 8” x 10” color photo. Nm-=m 8. The adjustable Bulls cap is nm-m. Kenner produced five figures: 1994 Staring Lineup, Dan Marino, football; Doug Gilmour, hockey; 1996 Starting Lineup, Pooh Richardson, basketball; and official Officieel Goedgekeurd Sportsatars, 1989, Antonia D.O.F. Careca and Diego A. Maradona, soccer. The figures are mint in packages that range from f to ex-m. Soccer is represented also by a full-sized pennant of the North American Soccer League. The pennant identifies the Cosmos as “NASL Champions” in 1972, 1977, 1978 and 1980. Ex. The league was formed in 1970 and folded in 1985. Headliners produced figures in 1997 of Allen Iverson and Horace Grant, mint in ex-m packages, one with price stickers. Dan Marino is featured in a 1992 JusToys Bend-Ems figure, mint on a g-vg card. There are three different Florida Panthers hockey pucks, each with a different logo, including one from the 1993-94 inaugural season. Nm. An 8-ounce coke bottle also commemorates the season. Another puck is from Stan Mikita’s restaurant. Five signed “Property of Thomas Edward John” labels come with these publications and figures. Also, five U.S. Amateur Boxing Federation pins. Kevin Keating authenticated the autographs.
