Lot 544.  6 Wood Shaft and 1 Vintage Steel Shaft Golf Clubs from Tommy John’s Collection. The wood-shaft clubs are from four different manufacturers: Burke of Newark, OH: A 2 iron, 39”, and a 5 mashie (5 iron), 36.75”. Wollaston, a putter, 35”, and a niblick (9 iron), 36.5”. Hillerich & Bradsby, 6 iron. And Wilson, The Wilsonian, putter with a chromium head, 34”. The Wollaston clubs have rust on the heads. Otherwise, these clubs generally show average wear. The leather grip of the Wilson putter shows heavier wear. The steel-shaft club is a mashie-iron (4 iron), 37.5”, by and unidentified manufacturer; it has significant rust on the head. These clubs come with five signed “Property of Thomas Edward John” labels.”

Lot 545.  TP Contender P-163 Half Circle 6.5” Mallet Alignment Putter from Tommy John’s Collection. This right-hander’s 39” putter has a stainless steel head. A portion of the flat surface on top has been painted white. It comes with a signed “Property of Thomas Edward John” label.

Lot 546.  LeRoy Neiman “Arnie in the Rain” Poster. Neiman’s artwork shows Arnold Palmer playing in the rain in the Master Tournament at Augusta in 1973. The poster is about 23” x 28”, framed and nm-m. It comes with a signed “Property of Thomas Edward John” label.

Lot 547.  Jack Nicklaus and Doug Sanders Signed Photos and a Paul Azinger Autographed Glove. Nicklaus signed an 8” x 10” color photo that is somewhat faded. His personalized autograph remains strong, with slight smudging. Nm 7 to nm-m 8. Sanders’ signature is nm-m 8 on a b&w photo. Azinger’s autograph displays especially nicely on the palm of a Titleist 1 leather glove. Mint 9 to gem mint 10. Three signed “Property of Thomas Edward John” labels are included. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 548.  Portfolio of 6 Golf Cartoon Classics by (Charles) Saxon. Originally an editor with Dell Publishing, Saxon became a popular and respected cartoonist. After selling some of his work to “The Saturday Evening Post,” he became a cartoonist for the “New Yorker.” There he drew more than 700 cartoons, including 92 covers. He also created many advertising cartoons. The six 11” x 14” black & white cartoons are ex-m in a vg folder. A signed “Property of Thomas Edward John” label is included.

Lot 549.  Tommy John Golf Collection of Autographs and Mementoes for His and Others’ Golf Events. John is an avid and talented golfer who has played extensively in celebrity tournaments and initiated his own fundraiser evens in the 1970s. Seven autographs by one of the winningest pitchers not yet in the Hall of Fame are among the highlights of this collection of more than 100 items. One signature is on a 12.5” x 16” print, from artwork by Neil McAuliffe, titled “Saturday Foursome.” The signature is nm-m 8 to mint 9. His autograph is strong also on an 8” x 10.5” plaque he received as honorary chairman of the 1991 65 Roses Golf Invitational benefitting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He signed two 5” x 6.75” color photos, both from the Joe Garagiola Tucson Open Pro-Am, one in 1978 and one in 1981. Lanny Wadkins and Ken Devine are in one photo. For a 2004 Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame golf tournament, he signed the clear-plastic protecting the photo. His signatures are also on an 8” x 10” b&w photo of him driving a golf cart (creased photo) and a program for his Seventh Annual Celebrity Invitational Golf Classic in1983. These signatures, authenticated by Kevin Keating, are strong, nm-m 8 or better. Key items from golf tournaments sponsored by others include a silver-plated ice bucket, 7.25” tall and 8.25” in diameter, from the 1978 Tony Lema Memorial Tournament, second place best ball foursome; two glass pitchers, 1998 Boys Village Invitational Pro Am (2nd low gross and to Tommy John “With deep appreciation,” 7.75” tall; and a Clambake 2006 pocket watch and fob from Arcola Country Club in Paramus, NJ, unused in a wood case. Other memorabilia includes: A very attractive Payne Stewart XL sweater; an unused size XXL jacket from a Randy Jones Chapman College Celebrity Golf Tournament; a 1.5” medallion for the 2nd Annual National Golf Day; a United States Golf Association 2.5” coaster; five Old Fashioned glasses from the 1968 Professional Athletes Golf Association Baseball Celebrity Golf Classic, and five more from the 1970 event; a table-top cigarette lighter from the organization; a pewter mug from the 1978 Joe Garagiola Tucson Open and a small ice bucket from the 1981 event, both with dents; four Old Fashioned glasses from the 1978 Tim Conway Celebrity Golf event; four limited edition PGA glasses with engraved images of Walter Hagen, Rodman Wanamaker, Bobby Jones and Gene Sarazen; four Wilson 4” coasters with Mickey Wright, Gene Sarazen, Dave Marr and George Archer; a Wilson 6” tray from its World Pro-Am at Pebble Beach; a pewter cup that may or may not be golf related and engraved with “In Appreciation Tommy John March 1, 2000”; a program for the 1993 Phil Harris Scholarship Golf Tournament; bag tags for 12 golf tournaments, 1971-89, John’s name on nine; name tags for six golf tournaments and a badge from the 1989 AT&T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach; two money clips for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, one dated 1989 and one undated, and one for the 1994 Shula Celebrity Classic; and a 1 3/8” medallion from the 2nd Annual National Golf Day in 1953. Among the collectibles from John’s own tournaments are six coffee mugs from the First Annual Tommy John Cystic Fibrosis Celebrity Golf Classic, 1977; a pair of Mexican-made stirrups, one engraved “2nd Annual Tommy John Celebrity Invitational Golf Classic, Nov. 13, 1978; six golf club covers, three red and three red, white and blue from his annual golf classics; programs for his 1977, 1978 (3), 1984 (2), 1985 (45) and 1989 golf events; brochures for his 1981 (5), 1985 and 1989 (2) golf events; a brandy bottle with John’s name on it; two John membership cards for Deer Creek; and four 18” x 25” posters with facsimile autographs from the 1992 Isuzu Celebrity Golf Tournament – John, Ernie Banks, Joe Namath, Tom Dreesen, Curly Neal, Darrell Royal, Doug Moe, Steve Bono, Clark Gillies, Graig Nettles and many more. There also is a photo of the Jones Course at Rock Barn Golf & Spa with a facsimile signature of Robert Trent Jones Jr., 4.25” x 10”, matted and framed to 9.5” x 15”. These items average ex to ex-m.
