Lot 540.  “Street and Smith’s Baseball Yearbooks” and Other Publications from Tommy John. Thirty-one publications, including the Street and Smith yearbooks for 1972, 1974 (2), and 1976-83. The 1972, 1976 and 1983 issues are missing the back cover. The other issues average vg-ex. Baseball Hall of Fame yearbooks are included for 1991 and 2003, ex+ and vg+ to ex, respectively. Among the other publications are: “Baseball ‘77” from the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues, Cobb and Brock cover, ex-m; “Baseball Forecast 1977,” Fidrych cover, ex; “Popular Sports Baseball Illustrated,” May 1980, vg-ex; “Inside Sports” for July 31 and Aug. 31, 1980, vg-ex; Miami Hurricanes’ 1983 baseball yearbook, vg+; “The Sporting News,” Aug. 20, 1984, vg; “Sport,” Jan. 2000, Sosa cover, ex-m; and “Sports Illustrated,” Fall 2001 bilingual issue, f. Also, a 1964 issue of “Baseball Digest,” p; five 1977 issues of the monthly, vg to vg-ex, and 2003-2005 auction catalogs, one each from Hunt Auctions, Guernsey’s and Sotheby’s. MB $20. Lot 541.  Tommy John’s “Sporting News” Annuals – Registers, Guides Plus Other Publications. One publication is autographed – John’s own copy of the National League 1977 “Green Book.” His name is imprinted on the cover in gold, and his autograph is nm-m 8. Copies of the “Baseball Register” are from 1970 (Seaver cover), 1971 (Mays), 1972 (2, Torre), 197 5 (Hunter), 1977 (Morgan), 1978 (Carew) and 1996 (Maddux). The 1970-77 editions are vg (with pages better than the covers); 1978 is ex, and 1996, nm. One of the 1972 issues is hardbound; it is ex-m. Three “Baseball Guides” are included: 1975, ex+; 1978, ex; and 1996, Ripken cover, nm. The other publications are: “World Series Records from 1903 Through 1965,” TSN, vg+ to ex; “The Book of the 1974 World Series,” ex, and “1974 Pitcher Performance Handbook,” vg, both by Baseball-for-Fans Publications; “Professional Baseball Rules Index,” 1992 edition, Jim Evans Academy; and “Stats Baseball Scoreboard 1994,” vg+ to ex. Seventeen publications, including one signed by Tommy John, plus two signed “Property of Thomas Edward John” labels. Kevin Keating authenticated the autographs.

Lot 543.  Tommy John Collection of 33 Baseball Books – Biographies, References, Histories, Etc. One of the books in this collection is a classic – Christy Mathewson’s “Pitching in a Pinch.” This edition, from 1977, has an introduction by Red Smith. The book is vg+ to ex in a vg dust jacket.
