President Richard Nixon Autograph and Campaign Memorabilia.

Lot 271. President Richard Nixon Autograph and Campaign Memorabilia. Nixon defeated Hubert Humphrey in the 1968 race for U.S. President and retained the presidency in 1972 by beating George McGovern. He served until his resignation in 1974. His autograph is on an inside page of a 1958 Washington, D.C., Touchdown Club dinner program, when he was Dwight Eisenhower’s Vice President. Authenticated by Kevin Keating, the signature is nm-m 8 to mint 9. The dinner honored Dutch Bergman, a star football player at Notre Dame and coach of the 1942 Washington Redskins. The program is g-vg, primarily because of stains on the cover. The autograph, which is inside, is not affected. With the autograph are an Auravision 33 1/3 rpm record with excerpts from Nixon’s nomination acceptance speech in 1968, vg; a flyer presenting financial reasons for electing Nixon, vg; a reprint of a Walter Lippmann column titled “A Vote for Nixon,” g-vg, and a 13.5” x 19.5” “This Time, Nixon” poster with his image. The poster, by the New York State Republican Campaign Committee, has light-to-moderate water stains on the lower one-third, a light stain in the upper right and a tack hole in each of the two upper corners.
