Non-Sport Autographs and Memorabilia   3 Lots

Lot 272.  Circa 1940s Dartmouth Dry Ginger Ale Original Metal Sign from Buds Best Beverages. This double-sided 17.25” x 23.75” sign represents the Newport Bottling Works of Newport, NH. The Dartmouth pennant on the sign pays tribute to the nearby Ivy League college in Hanover, NH. The bottling works had its origins in a grocery store opened in the early 1900s by Alexander Budnitz. In 1917, Budnitz became a licensee of Coca-Cola. In 1922, he opened the Newport Works to produce his own sodas. The facility closed in 1972. Both sides of the red, green, orange, black and off-white sign have rust at the top. One side has light soiling in the top left and a scratch in the top right. The other side is better, expect for a well-attached piece of masking tape that we have left in place. The sign is an attractive vintage display piece.
Winning Bid $115.

Lot 295.  Jimmy Stewart Autographed 8” x 10” B&W “Carbine Williams” Photo and Letter. In a 1989 typed letter on his half-sheet stationery, Stewart responds to a request for a photo. He writes to Sara, “I am sure that Santa will bring you that bear you wanted. May God bless you and your family.” His signature at the close of the letter is gem mint 10. His autograph is also a 10 on an original b&w movie still from the 1952 film “Carbine Williams.” The still, which is vg, is numbered 52 of 202. The movie outlines the life of David Marshall Williams, who invented the operating principle for the M1 Carbine while imprisoned in North Carolina. The M1 was used extensively in World War II. Stewart passed away in 1997. Kevin Keating authenticated the autographs.
Winning Bid $70.
