Lot 40.  New York Yankees at Pittsburgh Pirates 1960 World Series Game 1 Ticket Stub. Strong bleacher seat stub with two sections present and neatly separated from the third. Free of stains and surface imperfections, it has one medium crease and two lighter creases on the part that says “Bleacher” and provides the seat number. Vg+ to ex. The Pirates won Game 1, 6-4.

Lot 41.  Pittsburgh Pirates 1960 World Series Program. Bill Mazeroski’s immortal walk-off home run enabled Pittsburgh to defeat the New York Yankees in seven games. Nm and easily the finest copy of the program we have handled.

Lot 43.  George Burke 1937 Photo of Honus Wagner and a Second Wagner Image. Burke was the premier baseball photographer of the 1930s. His images of baseball’s Hall of Fame stars are highly prized. This 4” x 6” b&w portrait captures Wagner as a Pittsburgh Pirates coach. Ex-m. It has Burke’s stamp on the back. The Burke photo is accompanied by a 2.75” x 4.5” vintage snapshot that shows Wagner at Forbes Field with another individual. Ex-m to nm.

Lot 47.  1919 Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Augustine Saints Scorecard. The Pirates concluded their regular season Sept. 28 and played this local team nine days later. The scorecard, about 7.25” x 11”, has never been folded and is ex-m. A photo of Pittsburgh captain Max Carey is on the front. The Saints’ Pierce Evans is shown on the back.

Lot 48.  1920 Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball Program. This eight-page program has printed lineups for each team, an ad picturing Honus Wagner promoting his sporting goods store, and a list of the Pirates’ home games from Aug. 13-Oct. 2. It has been folded vertically and horizontally, has a ½” tear along the horizontal fold and stains on pages 7 and 8. It is intact with neither writing nor tape. G+.

Lot 49.  1926 Cincinnati at Pittsburgh Program. Rookie Paul Waner is in the printed lineup for Pittsburgh, along with Kiki Cuyler, Pie Traynor and Joe Cronin. Edd Roush and Wally Pipp are among the starters for the Reds. The 16-page oversized (9” x 11”) program has photos of many Pirates players, as well as Bill McKechnie, the manager, and Barney Dreyfuss, the team’s president. The center folio containing the scorecard, which shows some pencil edits to the printed lineup, is loose and shows some wear. The program has been folded vertically and is vg+.

Lot 50.  1929 Cincinnati at Pittsburgh Program. Vg+ oversized (9” x 11”) 16-page program that is neatly scored. The center folio with the scorecard is loose. Pirates pictured include Pie Traynor, Burleigh Grimes, and Lloyd and Paul Waner.

Lot 51.  1930 Pittsburgh Pirates Program vs. Brooklyn with Uncle Sam on the Cover. “Saturday Evening Post” illustrator J. F. Kernan created the image of Uncle Sam. The 16-page program is vg+ to ex with light soiling along the outer edge of the cover, a vertical crease and minor notations on the scorecard inside. Pie Traynor and Lloyd and Paul Waner are pictured.

Lot 56.  Pittsburgh Pirates 1913 Season Ticket Booklet. This booklet contains tickets for a box seat for games from Sept. 5 through Sept. 26. The 20 tickets are in strips of four. Three tickets are without a date. Tickets for games earlier in the season have been removed. Inside, the 2” x 4” booklet has a facsimile signature of Barney Dreyfuss, the Pirates’ president. Ex to ex-m, with the tickets better than the booklet covers. The Pirates finished fourth in the National League with a 78-71 record.

Lot 57.  Extremely Rare 1927 World Series Pittsburgh Pirates Press Ticket. The Pirates issued this ticket to Edward T Murphy, apparently the New York “Sun” sportswriter and “Baseball Magazine” columnist. The ticket was punched twice for each of the two World Series games in Pittsburgh. The Pirates lost both as the New York Yankees swept them in four games. The 3” x 4” ticket has the name of Baseball Commissioner Judge Landis printed on. The ticket has two pin holes, several light surface creases, an impression the size of a pencil point on the front and a larger impression on the back. We don’t know of another press ticket from this World Series.

Lot 58.  2 Ticket Stubs - Three Rivers Stadium Opening Game and Forbes Field Final Game. The ticket stubs are accompanied by an 11” x 25.5” (when opened) brochure depicting the three ball parks that served as home to the Pirates – Exhibition Park, Forbes Field and Three Rivers Stadium. Ex+. The brochure has also a photo of the 1970 Pirates. In their final appearance at Forbes Field, the Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs twice. A June 28 rain check with two punch holes commemorates these games. Somewhat faded, the stub is free of creases. A two-part 2 ½” x 6 7/8” stub is present for the Pirates’ first game at Three Rivers Stadium on June 29. They lost to the New York Mets. Vg+ to ex.
