1933 Hardbound “Who’s Who in Major League Baseball.”
Lot 239. 1933 Hardbound “Who’s Who in Major League Baseball.” Published by Grover C. Buxton of Chicago and compiled by sportswriter Harold (Speed) Johnson, this scarce period reference is what every annual should be. Consisting of 544-pages, it devotes a full page and a large photo to each of several hundred baseball players. The page includes the player’s major and minor league statistics and a biographical sketch with career highlights. The “Who’s Who” starts with Earl “Sparky” Adams and ends with Tom Zachary. Judge Landis, managers, owners and other personalities also are profiled. The red cover, without a dust jacket, is fair, intact with a water stain in the upper right corner and a stain that covers most of the back cover. Inside, the owner’s name is on the flyleaf, and the first title page has a one-inch tear. When the book is closed, the pages show stains along their edges, but with the annual opened, these stains are evident almost exclusively on the last 60 pages in the upper right corner. Overwhelmingly, each individual page is clean, with an ex appearance.
Winning Bid $83.
