Joe Jackson Scarce Sept. 13, 1913 M113 “Police Gazette” Supplement.

Lot 67. Joe Jackson Scarce Sept. 13, 1913 M113 “Police Gazette” Supplement. From 1901-17, the men’s magazine included a large supplement of an athlete, actress or model in each weekly issue. Jackson is the subject of a supplement numbered 1883. Under a full-length portrait of the star outfielder, the tabloid reports that the “Fleet-footed and Heavy-hitting Right Fielder of the Cleveland (American League) Tem is at His Best This Season. “ The content of the caption is arguable. Yes, Jackson concluded the season with a .373 batting average. But that was 22 points lower than his 1912 average, and 35 below his 1911 average of .408. This 11.25” x 16” supplement has been laminated with a note on the blank back that says “Compliments of Alongi’s,” apparently the Italian restaurant in Du Quoin, IL. In addition, the laminated back has scrapbook residue on it. The left border is somewhat uneven toward the bottom, and there is a small chip in the upper right corner. Here is a potential opportunity to own a great image of Jackson at a reasonable price.
Winning Bid $248.
