1950 New York Giants Team-Signed ONL Ford Frick Baseball – 24 Autographs.

Lot 114. 1950 New York Giants Team-Signed ONL Ford Frick Baseball – 24 Autographs. This game-used ball contains a number of notable names: Monte Irvin and Hank Thompson, who became the first black players in the Giants’ lineup on July 8, 1949. Thompson was also the St. Louis Browns’ first black player two years earlier. Bobby Thomson, who would deliver the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” toward the end of the 1951 season. Sal Maglie, one of baseball’s best pitchers in the early 1950s, one of the game’s most intimidating pitchers throughout his career and a somewhat tough autograph. And Eddie Stanky, one of baseball’s notable characters. Jack Kramer is on the sweet spot of the off-white ball with a stamped Leo Durocher signature that is essentially too light to see. The north panel has Bill Rigney, Clint Hartung, Don Mueller, Jim Hearn, Bob Thomson and Whitey Lockman; the south, Sheldon Jones, Rudy Rufer, Sal Maglie, Jack Maguire, Wes Westrum, Ed Stanky and Dave Koslo; the east, Henry Thompson, Monte Kennedy, Sam Calderone and Jack Lohrke; and the west, Andy Hansen, Tookie Gilbert, Monte Irvin, Al Dark, Larry Jansen and Roy Weatherly. The autographs range for good 2 to nm 7 and average ex 5 as a result of fading. There are no smudges or retraces. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
