Lot 113. Philadelphia Athletics 1950 Team Ball Signed by Mack, Cochrane, 18 Others. Connie Mack, as manager, and Mickey Cochrane, as a coach, share the sweet spot of this ball, which may have been game-used. The other autographs are by Alex Kellner, Sam Chapman, Les McCrabb and Dick Fowler on the north panel; Dave Keefe, Carl Scheib, Joe Astroth, Paul Lehner, Pete Suder and Wally Moses on the south; Joe Tipton, Elmer Valo, Barney McCosky, Jimmy Dykes and Bob Dillinger on the east, and Ben Guintini, Joe Coleman and Ferris Fain on the west. The autographs range from ex 5 to nm-m 8 and average ex-m, which describes the Mack and Cochrane signatures. The ball is without identifiable printed areas and relatively evenly toned to a light-tan color. Kevin Keating authenticated the autographs. The 1950 season was Mack’s last as manager. Except for Scheib, all of the signers are deceased.
