Lot 349. 8 Comic Books with a Baseball Connection – Jackie Robinson, Stanky, Musial, Etc. From 1950-52, Fawcett Publications issued six comic books focusing on the life and career of Robinson. Issue No. 4, offered here, is condition-challenged. One-fourth of the front cover and all of the back cover are missing. Otherwise the comic is complete, except for a large corner chip on the first page. All of the text is present. A 1951 comic titled “Eddie Stanky, Baseball Hero” is missing the covers; the interior is complete and consistent with a vg-fine copy. The earliest comic, issued by Spalding in conjunction with Major League Baseball, is titled “Circling the Bases.” Snuffy Stirnweiss of the Yankees and George Case and George Myatt of the Senators are pictured inside this 1947 comic, which provides tips on playing baseball. Vg to vg+. Stan Musial is featured in a Wheaties ad on the back of Dell’s Oct. 1952 “Lone Ranger” No. 52 book, vg-fine, and Johnny Bench, in a Hillerich & Bradsby ad on the back of “Man from Atlantis” No. 4 from 1976, very fine. Three 1950-52 issues of “Sports Action” have stories on baseball and other sports: No. 3, f-g; No. 10, vf; and No. 12, vg.
