After winning both the pentathlon and decathlon at the Olympics in Sweden, Thorpe is pictured as “the World’s Greatest All Around Athlete” on a page from the July 20, 1912 “Nashville Banner.” Vg-ex. A page from the “Banner’s” Feb. 11, 1914 edition covers the firing of Evers as Chicago Cubs manager by C. W. Murphy, the team president. The page also contains the 1914 National League schedule. Vg-ex. Led by Connie Mack, the Philadelphia Athletics are pictured as “World Champs” in the Oct. 9, 1930 “Daily Times” from Beaver, PA. F.
