Lot 14. 9 Different 1880s H804-7 Merchant’s Gargling Oil Cards from 4 Series. All five titles are represented, and a full set is present if type variations are ignored. H804-7A is made up of players wearing a red belt, socks and hat and a white uniform against a tan background. Advertising is in a serif type. “A close Affair. Hugging the Bat” is the card from this series. Ex. H804-7B cards have multi-colored backgrounds, primarily blue and yellow. Three titles are present: “Struck Out” g, “The Hero of a Home Run” vg-ex and “Bravo!” vg. The two other series, H804-7C and H804-7D, are the same as H804-7A, except that the advertising is in a sans serif type. In one version, the type is somewhat larger and less compact. Four cards are in the group with larger type; only “Bravo!” is missing. It is present in the sans serif, more compact type version. This card has a blank, stain-free back. All of the other cards have advertising on their backs, and most have light or light-to-moderate stains. Three backs are free of stains. These five cards average vg to vg-ex.
