Christy Walsh Autographed Copy of “Intercollegiate Football 1869-1934.”

Lot 203. Christy Walsh Autographed Copy of “Intercollegiate Football 1869-1934.” A sports journalist, Walsh is regarded by some sports historians as baseball’s first agent. His accomplishments included establishing a syndicate of ghost writers whose articles and analyses appeared under the names of sports stars, including Babe Ruth and Knute Rockne. He also served as sports director for the 1939-40 New York World’s Fair. He died in 1955. His personalized signature is large and gem mint 10 on the back of the first title page of the 1934 stated first edition hardback book, which is subtitled “A Complete Pictorial and Statistical Review from 1869 to 1934.” The 478-page 9.25” x 12.25” format book features drawings by Homer Peace. An excellent reference, it contains information on the football history of 133 colleges and universities and presents large photos of football greats such as Rockne, Pop Warner and Red Grange. It also presents the score of essentially every college game through 1933 and lists the lettermen for each team by year. The leatherette covers of the book are vg+, and the interior, ex-m. Autograph authenticated by Kevin Keating.
