Lot 326. Spalding’s 1909 “How to Bat” and 1912 “How to Pitch.” These are early editions of the classic Spalding publications. Jesse F. Matteson is the editor of the 96-page softcover on batting. It is extensively illustrated with photos of the era’s top batters, including Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner. Clean vg-ex copy with a chip in the upper right corner of the cover, a small cover tear and minor paper loss at the top and bottom of the spine. Written by John B. Foster, the 126-page publication on pitching has photos of such top stars as Christy Mathewson and Rube Marquard. Nice vg. Both tutorials have advertising at the back that includes player-endorsed bats. Scarce, and usually found in lower condition.
