19th Century “Reward of Merit” with a Baseball Scene.
Lot 13. 19th Century “Reward of Merit” with a Baseball Scene. Rewards of Merit were presented to students for good behavior and performance by their teachers in the 1800s. This scene has been variously dated from the 1850s through the 1870s. This example is approximately 3” x 6.5”, hand-colored, and double-matted and framed to 9” x 11. The student and teacher’s names are filled in and shows light, brief pencil writing above “Reward.” The certificate has a very minor stain below the “t” in “Merit” and appears to be free of creases.
Winning Bid $248.
