Mint 9 signature on a photo showing a scene from the 1939 gangster film “Each Dawn I Die.” Cagney was one of the most important actors of the first half of the 20th century. In 1974, he received the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked him eighth on its list of 50 Greatest American Screen Legends. Orson Wells said he was "maybe the greatest actor to ever appear in front of a camera." Cagney died in 1986.
