Lot 148. Grantland Rice Autograph. Rice was one of the top sportswriters during the first half of the 20th century. Known for his inspiration prose and heroic writing style, he is perhaps best-remembered for succeeding Walter Camp in selecting college football All-Americans. He also is recognized for dubbing the 1924 Notre Dame backfield the “Four Horsemen.” Rice died in 1954. His fountain pen signature, authenticated by Kevin Keating, is nm 7 to nm-m 8 on a 1” x 3” cut.
