1950 “Gene Mack’s Hall of Fame Cartoons: Major League Ball Parks.”
Lot 101. 1950 “Gene Mack’s Hall of Fame Cartoons: Major League Ball Parks.” Possibly the most important early baseball history, this 542-page 1911 hardback has blue covers with gilt lettering and an illustration. Spalding was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. In the 1870s, he played for the Boston Red Stockings and Chicago White Stockings and managed the Chicago team. He co-founded the Spalding sporting goods company. His photo is inside the book, which is illustrated with photos, and cartoons by Homer C. Davenport. The covers are detached from the interior. Pages at the front and back are partially separated from the rest. Delightful softcover featuring Mack’s informative cartoons and accompanying text: Braves Field, Fenway Park, Ebbets Field, Comiskey Park, Wrigley Field, Crosley Field, Municipal Stadium, Briggs Stadium, Polo Grounds, Yankee Stadium, Shibe Park, Forbes Field and Sportsman’s Park. A distant relative of Connie Mack, Gene Mack was an artist for the “Boston Globe.” His original cartoons now reside in the Baseball Hall of Fame. From 1950, the publication has pages measuring almost 7” x 11”. The front cover shows foxing, and there is minor foxing on some pages inside. Vg to vg-ex.
