Lot 100. First Edition of A. G. Spalding’s “American’s National Game.” Possibly the most important early baseball history, this 542-page 1911 hardback has blue covers with gilt lettering and an illustration. Spalding was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. In the 1870s, he played for the Boston Red Stockings and Chicago White Stockings and managed the Chicago team. He co-founded the Spalding sporting goods company. His photo is inside the book, which is illustrated with photos, and cartoons by Homer C. Davenport. The covers are detached from the interior. Pages at the front and back are partially separated from the rest.
