Tommy John Non-Sport Autographs   4 Lots      



Lot 120.  Autographs of Actors Pat Morita and Robbie Rist and Baseball Stars Oh and John. This ONL William White baseball was personalized to Tommy Johns’ sons by the late Pat Morita, who starred as Mr. Miyagi in “The Karate Kid.” In fact, he added the name of the fictional character after his signature. Morita passed away in 2005. His autograph and additions are gem mint 10 on the east panel of the nm ball. Rist signed the west panel and added “Michelangelo,” the character he voiced in the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie series from 1984-86. He also appeared on the “The Brady Bunch” in its final season. Several discoloration marks are near his gem mint 10 signature. International home run king Sadaharu Oh autographed the north panel. His signature is mint 9 with some very light discoloration nearby. John’s autograph on the south panel is a 10. Interesting and unusual mix of sports and Hollywood autographs! Kevin Keating authenticated the autographs. A letter of authenticity from John is included.

Lot 121.  John Grisham Autographed First Edition of “The Brethren.” Gem mint 10 signature on the first title page inscribed to Tommy John. The 2000 stated first edition book is vg-ex in a vg dust jacket. Kevin Keating authenticated the autograph.

Lot 122.  Ball Signed by Lemmon, Matthau, Newhart, Hackman, Funicello, Boone, Etc. This ONL Feeney baseball was signed for Tommy John by 17 celebrities at a gathering of Hollywood stars at Dodger Stadium. Jack Lemmon, Desi Arnaz Jr. and Max Baer share the sweet spot. Panels are signed by Walter Matthau, Bob Newhart, McLean Stevenson of “M*A*S*H,” Annette Funicello, Gene Hackman, Greg Morris of “Mission Impossible,” Pat Boone, Kenny Rogers, major leaguer John Berardino of “General Hospital,” Norman Alden of “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman,” comedian-actor Jack Carter, and Michael Dante, actor friend of John Wayne who appeared in numerous movies and TV programs, including “Winterhawk,” “Star Trek” and “Days of Our Lives.” He also played minor league baseball as Ralph Vitti. The autographs, authenticated by Kevin Keating, are strong, varying from nm-m 8 to gem mint 10. The ball comes with a letter of authenticity from Tommy John.

Lot 123.  Country Music Autographs – Homer & Jethro, the Gatlin Brothers, Etc. The autographs in this collection are by Homer & Jethro, the Gatlin Brothers, Jimmy Dean (died 2010) and Bill Anderson. Homer & Jethro – Henry Haynes (d. 1971) and Ken Burns (d. 1989) – created a successful career by writing and singing parodies popular songs from the 1940s-60s. In 1959, they won a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Performance - Musical for satirizing the Johnny Horton song “The Battle of New Orleans” as “The Battle of Kookamonga”. They were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001. Their autographs, as “Homer & Jethro,” are on an 8” x 10” black & white photo personalized to Tommy. The autographs are 10s. Separately, Jethro sent John a signed handwritten, undated note on the duo’s stationery. Another 8” x 10” b&w photo is signed by Larry Gatlin and his brothers, Steve and Rudy. The brothers were one of country music’s most successful acts of the 1970s and 1980s. The autographs, personalized, range from nm 7 to mint 9. Bill (Anderson) signed his first name on a typed 1990 letter. Jimmy Dean autographed the back of a promotional card from the Landmark in Las Vegas. His signature is an 8-9. The collection also includes two unsigned Glenn Campbell items, including a menu with his photo from a performance at the Las Vegas Hilton.
