Lot 370. Bill McKechnie (HoF) Signed Baseball with 15 Other 1952 Boston Red Sox. Baseballs autographed by the Hall of Fame manager are extremely difficult to find, and his signature is seldom as strong in this one. In crisp, bold blue ink, “W. B. McKechnie” extends across the sweet spot of a clean, cream-colored unofficial ball that shows neither stampings nor discoloration. A virtually imperceptible Krylon coat protects McKechnie’s signature and the others. McKechnie managed Pittsburgh and Cincinnati to World Championships and also led St. Louis and the Reds to N.L. pennants. He died in 1965, three years after his induction into the Hall of Fame. The ball presents mint 9 or gem mint 10 signatures also by Bill Goodman, Al Benton, Ellis Kinder, Ivan Delock, Mel Parnell, Del Wilber, Ralph Brickner, Mickey McDermott, George Schmees, Gus Niarhos, Johnny Lipon, Willard Nixon, Clyde Vollmer, Ted Lepcio, and Dick Brodowski.
