Lot 248. Art Rooney Autographed Steelers’ 50th Anniversary Envelope and Signed Letter. Rooney signed a 1981 letter “Art” and placed an “Art Rooney” autograph on a 1982 envelope that has his image and commemorates the Pittsburgh team’s 50 seasons in the NFL. Both signatures are 10s. In the typed letter, Rooney comments on an event in Johnstown, PA, that he was unable to attend and on the passing of Father Silas, who served as athletic director at St. Bonaventure. The letter, mailing envelope and commemorative envelope are mounted on an 18” x 15” plaque with an engraved plate that says “Art Rooney Sr. ‘The Chief,’ Founder and Owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers (1932), Born Jan. 27, 1901 Died Aug. 25, 1988.” Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
