Lot 337. 120+ Autographs of 30 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates Including Maz, Groat, Law, Mejias, Etc. These signatures are on photos, cards, index cards and other media. Three autographs of Bill Mazeroski are included, and one of Ramon Mejias, whose signature turns up infrequently. The autographs are overwhelmingly mint 9s and gem mint 10s. Throughout, we have listed last names only; first names also are signed. There are no more than three personalizations. All of the autographs are on different items; there are no duplicates. Twenty seven of the autographs are on 8” x 10” photos, color unless otherwise noted: Face (b&w), Friend (4, one b&w), Gibbon (b&w), Green (2, b&w), Groat, Law (4, two b&w showing a very young Vernon), Mazeroski (2, one b&w), Narron (b&w), Nelson, Oldis (b&w), Schofield (2, one b&w), Skinner (b&w), Stuart, Virdon and Witt. There also is a b&w photo signed by Face, Haddix and Mazeroski. Twenty-three signatures are on index cards, almost all unlined, with a few cuts: Barone, Bright, Christopher, Daniels, Face, Friend, Giel, Groat, Haddix, Kravitz, Law, Mejias, Mizell, Narron, Oldis, Schofield, Skinner, Smith, Trucks, Vernon, Virdon, Whitt. Team Issues, all different, are signed by Face, Friend (2), Groat (2), Law (3), Skinner and Virdon (2). Groat signed two magazine covers, the Aug. 8, 1960 “Sports Illustrated” and the May 1961 “Sport.” Finally there are autographs of Groat, Daniels, Law, Friend (2), Skinner, Smith, Face and Smith on various media. In addition, Maz autographed a “Beat ‘Em Bucs” envelope with the World Series line score for each game. The 30 players represented are Baker, Barone, Bright, Burgess, Christopher, Cimoli, Daniels, Face, Friend, Gibbon, Giel, Green, Groat, Haddix, Kravitz, Law, Mazeroski, Mejias, Mizell, Narron, Nelson, Oldis, Schofield, Skinner, Smith, Stuart, Trucks, Vernon, Virdon and Witt. Great collection for a Pirates fan, and it has excellent break-up potential for a dealer!
