Ford served his Michigan constituents in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1949-73, when he replaced Spiro Agnew as Richard Nixon’s Vice President. Less than a year later, he became President when Nixon resigned. Although a star football player at the University of Michigan, Ford said he wanted to be a baseball player, but “nobody would sign me.” He also said, “In baseball when they say you're out, you're out.
