Lot 451. Circa 1904 E239 Limola Gum “Mail Carriers & Stamps” Partial Set of 31 Different. From a scarce set of 48 nicely lithographed cards issued on behalf of the Mansfield Co. of Newark, N.J. Each card, about 4.25” x 2.75”, features a colorful scene of a mail carrier or mail transportation system in various countries and has a facsimile stamp in each corner. Among the countries represented are Canada, China, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Japan, Germany (2 different), Hungary, Mexico, Russia and Spain. The fronts of these cards were stock issue; the backs were printed to promote a variety of products. Consequently, they show up as T132 tobacco cards (Pulliam Cigars), K138 coffee cards (American Coffee and various others) and D73 bakery cards (Tip Top and others). The cards missing from this near set represent Anam (Annam, a section of Vietnam), Bavaria, Bosnia, British Indies, Bulgaria, Denmark, England, France, German SW Africa, North Borneo, Norway, Persia, Portugal, Roumania, Samoa, Sweden and Turkey.
