Lou Gehrig in 3 Type 1 1930s Wire Photos and a Newspaper Photo.

Lot 347. Lou Gehrig in 3 Type 1 1930s Wire Photos and a Newspaper Photo. The earliest photo, dated June 22, 1933, pictures Gehrig in uniform at White Sox Park next to his fiancé, Eleanore Twitchell. They married in September. The 6 ½” x 8 ½” sepia photo from International News Photos has pinholes in the upper corners and in the bottom border; otherwise, it is vg-ex. A brief caption is attached. Another 6 ½” x 8 ½” International News photo shows Gehrig from the waist up; vg+ and stamped “Jun 28 1939” on the back. An original 8” x 9 ¾” newspaper photo captures Gehrig in the Yankees’ dugout. Vg and dated April 29, 1938. An original, undated AP wire photo, apparently from early 1939, shows Gehrig in a suit as the Yankees traveled while playing exhibition games in Texas. The caption below the photo mentions Gehrig’s decline. It optimistically reports that “Gehrig slugged the baseball far and wide and played his first sack as of old to offset experts’ reports he was slipping badly.” Ex 7 ¾” x 10” photo. Extremely nice displayable collection of Gehrig original photos.
Winning Bid $321.
