Rare 1928-29 Boston Garden Inaugural Program with NHL Pioneers and Boxing.
Lot 260. Rare 1928-29 Boston Garden Inaugural Program with NHL Pioneers and Boxing. Boston’s new arena opened in Nov. 1928, and this 64-page program-yearbook was used for the 1928-29 season. It is extensively illustrated with hockey photos, and some boxing photos as well. Both the Boston Bruins and the Harvard hockey team are featured. Only four years earlier, the Bruins became the first NHL franchise in the U.S. The program contains a Bruins team picture, as well as three pages of individual photos with brief biographical sketches. Among the notables pictured are Art Ross, Eddie Shore, Dit Clapper, Harry Oliver and Cooney Weiland. Six pages are devoted to Harvard and amateur hockey. Boxing also receives substantial attention, including a photo of Jack Dempsey. The insert is for a Feb. 3, 1929 Harvard-Dartmouth-Cornell track meet and a University Club-Harvard hockey game. Vg+ program with a vertical fold, a ½” spine split and corner creases. Rare program with great cover artwork – and outstanding content.
Winning Bid $134.
