A variety of sources consider him to be the NFL’s best defensive player ever. He was a Pro Bowl selection 10 times, a first-team All-Pro nine times, the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1981, the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year several times and a member of the NFL 1980s All-Decade and 75th Anniversary All-Time Team.
