Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier Signed “SI” Previewing “The Fight of the Century.”
Lot 264. Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier Signed “SI” Previewing “The Fight of the Century.” Two of boxing’s best heavyweights met for the first time on May 8, 1971 at Madison Square Garden. Following a grueling fight that landed both boxers in hospitals, Frazier retained the world heavyweight championship with a unanimous decision. It was Ali’s first professional loss. “Sports Illustrated” previewed the bout by comparing “the slugger (Frazier) and the boxer (Ali).” Artist Robert Handville provided the illustration for the cover and for an article inside that looks at the Willard-Johnson, Dempsey-Tunney, Louis-Conn and Marciano-Charles fights. Both Ali and Frazier placed large, bold gem mint 10 signatures on the cover of the ex-m+ magazine. Kevin Keating authenticated the signatures.
Winning Bid $520.
