Lot 263. Gene Tunney Autographed 8” x 10” Black & White Photo. Tunney twice defeated Jack Dempsey, in 1926 and 1927, to win and retain the world heavyweight boxing title. After defeating Tom Heeney in 1928 and being named “Ring” magazine’s first Fighter of the Year, he retired as an undefeated champion. In a career that included 86 bouts, he lost only once, to Harry Greb. He passed away in 1978. He was elected to the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1980, the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990 and the U.S. Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. His autograph is a bold 10 authenticated by Kevin Keating.
