Hack Wilson (HoF) Oct. 11, 1930 Montreal “La Presse” Rare Newspaper Supplement.
Lot 191. Hack Wilson (HoF) Oct. 11, 1930 Montreal “La Presse” Rare Newspaper Supplement. “La Presse” published a series of color images of athletes, including hockey, tennis and baseball stars, in the 1930s. This specific color-tinted 11.25” x 17.5” supplement doesn’t seem to be on any readily accessible checklist. Contained within a 19.25” x 23.25” frame, it exhibits a number of light creases, minor discoloration along some edges and appears to be attached at the corners to a backing. After three years with the New York Giants, Wilson joined the Cubs in 1926 as their center fielder. The year of the “La Presse” supplement was his best in the majors. He slugged 56 home runs, contributed 191 RBI and batted .356 with a .723 slugging average. As we researched this item, one veteran collector told us he hasn’t seen a “La Presse” baseball premium in 20 years. If this example is not one-of-a-kind, then it likely is one of very few in existence!
Winning Bid $75.
