1933 Hardbound “Who’s Who in Major League Baseball.”
Lot 312. 1933 Hardbound “Who’s Who in Major League Baseball.” Published by Grover C. Buxton of Chicago and compiled by sportswriter Harold (Speed) Johnson, who has signed a brief pencil inscription on the flyleaf as “Speed.” Signature authenticated by Kevin Keating. This scarce period reference is what every annual should be. Consisting of 544 pages, it devotes a full page each to several hundred baseball players. Each player is represented by a large photo, his full record and a biographical sketch with career highlights. The “Who’s Who” starts with Earl “Sparky” Adams and ends with Tom Zachary. Judge Landis, managers, owners and other personalities also are profiled. This copy has purple covers that show sunning along the spine, and the owner’s name is stamped on the flyleaf. The covers are slightly loose, but still firmly attached. Inside, there is a signature under Gus Suhr’s photo, which shows some paper loss. Ex copy without a dust jacket. Scarce and desirable.
Winning Bid $180.
