Lot 88.  1960 Topps #160 Rival All-Stars (Mantle and Boyer) Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Strong, well centered card.

Lot 113.  1977 OAL Ball with 4 Yankees Signatures: Hunter, Jackson, Berra and Munson. Interesting – and challenging – baseball. Each signature occupies the upper part of its own panel on a MacPhail baseball. A uniformly applied and barely visible Krylon veil preserves this beautiful ex-m orb and your investment! The autographs are mint 9s. Kevin Keating has authenticated the signatures of Jim Catfish Hunter, Yogi Berra (a coach in 1977) and Reggie Jackson. He believes the Thurman Munson to be a clubhouse application, although he concedes that it may possibly be a ‘hurried’ example of a genuine Munson. We may never know, but one thing is certain: These four Yankee greats are represented nicely on this unique ball that displays well in four different positions!
Winning Bid $134.

Lot 114.  Bobby Brown Mint Signature on the South Panel of a Mint OAL Bobby Brown Baseball! Brown played third base for the Yankees from 1946-52 and in 1954, appeared in four World Series, and served as president of the American League from 1984-94. He is an M.D. who also was a vice president of the Texas Rangers. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
Winning Bid $75.

Lot 133.  Roy Hamey Signed Letters – as the Phils and Yankees General Manager. Mint 9 signatures on a 1954 letter on Phillies letterhead and a 1960 letter on Yankees stationery. With Hamey in charge, the Yankees won consecutive pennants from 1961-63. In his April 26 letter to “Pittsburgh Press” sports editor Chet Smith, Hamey notes that “…the Pirates are off to a fine start….” Of course, the teams would meet later in the year in one of baseball’s most memorable World Series. Authenticated by Kevin Keating. This group includes a third letter, from 1949 on Yankees stationery, by an unidentified (first-name) signer.
Winning Bid $30.

Lot 229.  Babe Ruth “Home Run on the Keys” Original 1936 Wire Photo. Acme Newspictures issued this 6” x 8” glossy photo, which shows Ruth being prepared for an appearance in the nine-minute movie short from Warner Bros. In the feature, Ruth recounts the story of his called home run in the 1932 World Series at Wrigley Field against Chicago. The caption is attached to the back. Vg photo with outstanding clarity and contrast.
Winning Bid $61.

Lot 268.  9 Baseball Books on Gehrig, Mack, Durocher, Martin, Etc. – 2 Signed by the Authors. The author-signed books are “Lou Gehrig: A Quiet Hero,” Frank (Graham), 1942 first edition, g+ to vg book, g-vg dust jacket, and “Connie Mack,” 1945 first edition, Fred Lieb, vg-ex/vg. Both are personalized to “Pittsburgh Press” sports editor Chest Smith. The other books are: “Billyball,” Billy Martin, 1987 first edition, ex/vg-ex; “The Leo Durocher Story,” Gene Schoor, 1955 advance copy, ex-m/vg-ex; “The Duke of Flatbush,” Duke Snider, 1988 first printing, ex-m/ex-m; “Steinbrenner!” Dick Schaap, 1982, ex-m/ex; “Baseball,” Robert Smith, 1947, vg+, dj missing; “The Story of Baseball,” John Durant, 1947, dj absent, and “Men at Work,” George Will, 1990, ex-m/ex.
