Lot 265.  “Sport Americana Baseball Card Checklist 1978 Edition” by Dennis W. Eckes. This pioneering publication, which contains checklists for more than 80 sets, pre-dates the “Sport Americana” guides. Vg-ex 96-page softcover with check marks by many of the listings.

Lot 266.  “My Giants” by Russ Hodges and 3 Other Books on the N.Y. or S.F. Giants. The voice of the Giants, Hodges wrote “My Giants” with All Hirshberg. The 1963 first edition is scarce. The hardback book is vg-ex with the owner’s name printed in small letters on the flyleaf; the dust jacket is vg with tape reinforcement inside at the top and bottom of the spine. Actress Laraine Day, who was married to Leo Durocher, is credited as the author of the 1952 first edition, “Day with the Giants.” She autographed the third inside page of the book, which is ex in a price-clipped vg dj. The two other books are “Bat Boy of the Giants,” Garth Garreau, 1949 softcover, vg, and “A Flag for San Francisco,” Charles Einstein, 1962, g-vg, some water staining. The Hodges book is the key to this group.

Lot 267.  10 Books Featuring Baseball Stories. The three key books in this group are Bill Stern’s “Favorite Baseball Stories,” 1949 first edition hardback, vg+ to ex book and ex price-clipped dust jacket; John Thorn’s “A Century of Baseball,” 1974 paperback, ex, signed “John” on the first title page to Ron (Gabriel), and “Baseball Stories” edited by Parke Cummings, first edition, vg-ex book, g dj. These books are hardbacks: “Kings of the Hill,” Nolan Ryan, 1992 first edition, dj glued to the book, vg. “Baseball Complete,” Russ Hodges, 1952 first edition, vg/p-f, dj adhered to the book because of moisture. “Strange But True Baseball Stories,” Furman Bisher, 1966 Major League Library hardback, vg-ex, no dj as issued. These books are paperbacks: “A Donald Honig Reader,” Donald Honig, 1988, ex-m. “Best Baseball Stories,” Hank Lowenkron, 1975, ex-m. “Greatest Stories Ever Told About Baseball,” Kevin Nelson, 1986, vg-ex. “Tales from the Dugout,” Mike Shannon, 1997, ex-m.

Both are personalized to “Pittsburgh Press” sports editor Chest Smith.
