17 Different 1920 W519 Cards Representing All 3 Subsets - 6 HoFers.
Lot 1. 17 Different 1920 W519 Cards Representing All 3 Subsets - 6 HoFers. This collection includes an uncataloged card of Gleason. Some cards in the first two subsets are difficult to distinguish. Ten appear to be from the Numbered Type 1 issue. These hand-cut strip cards constitute one-half of the set: # 3 Cravath (could be Type 1 or Type 2; moderate paper loss on the blank back; otherwise) vg-ex, 6 George Sisler (HoF) g, 7 Benton vg, 8 Johnston f, 9 Wilber (Wilbert) Robinson (HoF) g-vg, 10 Griffith g, 13 Barnes (green background, “New York” on jersey; moderate paper loss on the blank back; otherwise) vg, 15 Schalk (HoF) g, 17 Murphy p-f and 18 Frisch (HoF) vg. The Numbered Type 2 cards are #11 Gleasen (Gleason) p-f, 12 Murphy g, 13 Frisch (HoF) vg-ex, 13 Barnes (yellow background, no name on jersey) f-g, 17 Marquard (HoF) (miscut; otherwise) vg and 20 Schang f. The Gleasen (Gleason) card is an addition to the checklist, at least as presented in the 2010 edition of SCD’s Standard Catalog. A card of Cravath is from the unnumbered subset f-g. In general, these cards were poorly printed, and both portraits of Frisch are less than flattering. The uncataloged Gleason card and the condition of the Type 1 Frisch card make this group well worth our
Winning Bid $75.
