“Silencing the Guns” Band of Brothers Print Signed by Maj. Dick Winters, 3 More.

Lot 9. “Silencing the Guns” Band of Brothers Print Signed by Maj. Dick Winters, 3 More. This 2005 artwork by James Dietz shows the “Band of Brothers” of Easy Company, 506th P.I.R., 101st Airborne Division, on June 6, 1944 in Normandy, France. They have just captured the first of four German cannons in the hedgerows of Brecourt Manor. Led by Lt. Winters, the 12 men of Easy Company, with a handful or reinforcements, routed the German gun crews and 50 paratroopers. For his actions, Lt. Winters was recommended for the Medal of Honor. Because of a quota system, he received the Distinguished Service Cross instead. The 22 ½” x 32” print is signed by the four surviving members of the Band of Brothers: Winters, who achieved the rank of major; Buck Compton, who retired from the service as a lieutenant colonel; (Sgt.) Wild Bill Guarnere and (Sgt.) Don Malarkey. Dietz also signed. Their pencil signatures are 10s. The print, #322 of 1,000, is rolled and nm-m. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from American Art & Antiques, Inc. The typical sales price for this print is $1,000. Autographs authenticated by Kevin Keating.
