Lot 248. 22 Sheets of U.S. Postal Service Stamps, 1945-2007, Most with a Military or Space Theme. These sheets average nm and have a face value of $139.66. Besides the USPS stamps, there is a sheet of 30 stamps designed by the Postal Service, but never issued. The stamps commemorate the 50th anniversary of the use of atomic bombs against Japan to end World War II. After the Japanese government protested, the U.S. dropped plans to issue the stamps. Mid Coast Marketing of Columbus, OH, issued the stamps in 1995 without a denomination. Four sheets of 50 3-cent stamps were produced in 1945-46 to honor the Armed Forces. The subjects are Iwo Jima, the Coast Guard, the Army and the Navy. The other stamps are: 1953 General Patton, 50 3-cent; the sheet has a corner chip. 1983 Medal of Honor, 40 20-cent. 1992 Space Accomplishments, 50 29-cent. 1993 National Postal Museum, 20 29-cent. 1996 Classic American Aircraft, 20 32-cent. 1998 Space Discovery, 20 32-cent. 1999 Distinguished Soldiers, 20 33-cent. 1999 Billy Mitchell, 20 55-cent. 2000 Honoring Veterans, 20 34-cent. 2001 U.S. Military Academy, 20 34-cent. The following are 37-cent stamps in sheets of 20: 2003 Purple Heart, 2003 National World War II Memorial, 2004 American Advances in Aviation and 2004 Distinguished Marines. The final three sheets have 41-cent stamps: 2006 The Settlement of Jamestown (20 stamps), 2006 The Art of Disney Magic (20) and 2007 Star Wars (15), two sheets. There also is a block of four 2004 Disney stamps.
