Lot 152.  3 1888 N28 Allen & Ginter’s World Champions Cards – 2 Pugilists and a Wrestler. The boxers from this earliest of multi-sport sets are Joe Lannon vg-ex and Jimmy Carney g. J. H. McLaughlin, vg, is the wrestler.

Lot 153.  7 1888 N29 Allen & Ginter’s World Champions Second Series Cards – 2 Pugilists, 2 Wrestlers. Patsey Kerrigan vg and Jack McGee f are the boxers. The wrestlers are Theobaud Bauer ex and Edwin Bibby f-g. The other champions are Duncan C. Ross, all around athlete, vg-ex; W. J. M. Barry, hammer thrower, vg, and F. F. Ives, cyclist, g-vg.

Lot 154.  Rare Circa 1890s K57 McLaughlin’s Coffee Large Boxing Trade Card. Titled “The Pugilist,” the card is from McLaughlin’s extensive “Children’s Scenes and Life” series, composed overwhelmingly of non-sport cards. This colorful 5 3/8” x 6 7/8” example shows a child wearing boxing gloves, as well as two adult boxers. The card has a vg appearance. The lower right corner is reinforced on the back with ape; we can see two creases in the corner, but no tears.

Lot 155.  1910 T218 Partial Set of Boxers – 29 Different of 62 Including HoFers. This collection comprises 30 cards: Brannigan, Cross, Delmont, Deshler, Driscoll (HoF) vg, Jack Goodman, Griffin, Hyland, Jeannette (HoF) p-f, Jeffries (HoF) (3 cards, one arms folded pose, g, and two boxing poses, one with a Mecca back and one with a Hassan back, both g-vg), Jack Johnson (side view, HoF) f-g, Keyes, Kline, Willie Lewis, Loughrey, Marto, McGovern, Mellody, Moran (HoF) vg, Murphy, Nelson, Papke (HoF) vg-ex, Jack Sullivan, Mike Sullivan, Summers, Eddie Walsh, Jimmy Walsh and Welsh (HoF) f-g. These cards have Mecca backs except for the Hyland, Jeffries (folded arms and one boxing pose), Loughrey, Marto and Jimmy Walsh cards, which have Hassan backs. Cards not graded above are Ex: 5 cards. Lot 156.  6 Boxing Cards – 2 1910 T218 and 4 T220 Champion Athletes and Prizefighters. The two T218 cards present the two different poses of James Jeffries. The folded arms pose (Hassan back) is g-vg, and the boxing pose (Mecca back) is g-vg. Like Jeffries, two of the T220 boxers are in the Hall of Fame, Jack McAuliffe vg and Freddie Welsh (approximately 1/8” short left to right) otherwise ex+. The other cards are of Joe Coburn g-vg and Young Corbett (Rothwell) vg+. The T220s have Mecca backs.

Lot 157.  3 1940s-50s Exhibit Supply Co. Wrestling Cards. The wrestlers are Farmer Dan Marlin (moderate stain in top and right borders; otherwise) nm, Antonio (Antonino) Rocca (moderate stain in top and right borders; otherwise) nm and Nature Boy (Buddy) Rogers vg-ex. Rogers was the first wrestler to hold the World Wide Wrestling Federation and National Wrestling Alliance championships. Rocca and Rogers are in the World Wrestling Federation Hall of Fame.

Lot 158.  Sugar Cube from Jack Dempsey’s New York Restaurant Bearing the Champ’s Image. A star of the Roaring Twenties, Dempsey held the world heavyweight boxing championship from 1919-26. After boxing, Dempsey owned a popular restaurant on Broadway in Manhattan. The ¾” x 1 1/8” x ¼” cube has a photo of Dempsey on the front, the name of his restaurant on the back and the location of the restaurant on one side. Ex-m and unusual.

Lot 159.  Evander Holyfield Autograph. The former heavyweight champion signed a 1993 program for tribute to Joe DiMaggio. The signature, a large, bold 10, could easily be matted for framing. Holyfield held the heavyweight title on four separate occasions and also was the cruiserweight champ. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

AVIATORS: Hoxsey and Moisant. BILLIARDS: Cline and Sutton. BOXING: Griffin, Jeffries (both, HoF) both vg, Loughrey, McGovern, Mellody, Moran (HoF), Papke (HoF) and Mike Sullivan. BOWLERS: Dunbar and Johns. GOLFERS: Douglas, Herreshoff, Hobens, Low, Nicholls and Alex Smith. All have Mecca backs except Adams, Haywood, Jordan, Northridge, Obermeyer, Mellody, Moran and Sullivan; these cards have Hassan backs. Cards not graded above are Ex: 1 card. Vg-ex: 4. Vg: 12.
