17 University of Maryland Football Programs, 1929-92, Plus 5 Media Guides.

Lot 134. 17 University of Maryland Football Programs, 1929-92, Plus 5 Media Guides. Eight programs are from the 1950s and earlier. For the two earliest programs, one for 1929 and the other for 1932, the Terps’ opponent was Western Maryland College, which became McDaniel College in 2002. The 32-page 1929 program is missing the front cover, and the back cover is just holding on. One Western Maryland player pictured is long-time Penn State Hall of Fame Coach Rip Engle. The program interior is g-vg; the grade for the 1932 program, which has its cover, is also g-vg. Other early programs are for 1935 vs. Georgetown, vertical fold, vg to vg+, and 1953 freshmen vs. Bullis School, ex. One of the most desirable programs in the collection is from the 1953 National Championship season vs. Washington and Lee. The 68-program is ex-m. The 1953 team went undefeated in 10 regular-season games. Right tackle Stan Jones, a member of the college and pro Halls of Fame, was a consensus All-American. Other 1950s programs are from 1954 vs. George Washington, photo of the undefeated 1953 National Champions inside, water stains, g-vg; and 1957 vs. Wake Forest, vg, and North Carolina, center spread missing, otherwise ex. The 1954 program has an ad for Tuffy Leemans Cleaners. More recent programs are 1960 vs. Clemson, small cover scuff, otherwise vg-ex; 1966 vs. Duke, g-vg; 1970 vs. Buffalo, vg+ to ex, and vs. Tampa, ex-m; 1972 vs. North Carolina, ex+; 1977 vs. Duke, ex; 1985 vs. Penn State (2), one nm and one ex; 1989 vs. Penn State, ex-m, and 1992 vs. Pitt, vg+ to ex. All-Americans Jack Scarbath, Dick Modzelewski, Bob Ward, Bob Pellegrini and Gary Collins are among the players pictured in the programs. The Terrapins issued the media guides in 1974, Randy White cover, ex; 1975 vg+, 1978 vg-ex, 1979 ex and 1987 vg. The first three of the 1970s teams landed in the AP Top 20, as did the 1954 team. Interesting collection of 22 items representing some excellent Maryland seasons.
