Lot 123.  8 Different 1960 Fleer College Pennant Decal Pairs. These decals were issued with Fleer’s 1960 football cards. These pairs constitute more than 40 percent of the set: Alabama-Yale vg-ex, Army-Mississippi g-vg, Duke-Notre Dame ex, Maryland-Missouri nm-m, Miss. Southern-North Carolina ex-m, Navy-Stanford vg-ex, Pittsburgh-Utah vg-ex and Wake Forest-Wisconsin nm+. Proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the Society for American Baseball Research, a non-profit membership organization open to all that fosters the research, preservation, and dissemination of the history and record of baseball.

Keys to this set are #1 Passing Leaders ex-m+, 3 Rushing Leaders ex-m+, 160 Dorsett nm+, 198 Largent ex-m+, 308 Newsome rookie nm+, 310 Lofton rookie nm, 390 Campbell rookie nm+, 400 Staubach nm+, 480 Payton ex+ and 500 Bradshaw nm. The balance of the set is generally ex-m+ to nm+.

Lot 129.  Signatures of Notre Dame Stars – Heisman Winner Leon Hart and Frank Tripucka. Hart’s autograph is an nm-m 8 to mint 9 on 1951 Bowman card #26, which grades vg. Tripucka signed 1960 Fleer card #26, g-vg. The signature is a personalized 9-10. Hart, who passed away in 2002, won the Heisman Trophy in 1949 and then played professionally with Detroit for eight seasons. Quarterback Tripucka contributed 660 passing yards to an undefeated season for the Fighting Irish in 1948 and then had a 15-season NFL career with the Lions, Cardinals, Texans and Broncos. Lot 130.  Autographs of the 1957 Ohio State Backfield – White, LeBeau, Clark, Kremblas. The Buckeyes’ 1957 team captured a share of the national title with a 9-1 record, including a 10-7 win over Oregon in the Rose Bowl. Frank Kremblas was the quarterback, halfback Don Clark was the team’s leading rusher, and halfback Dick LeBeau led the team in receiving. Fullback Bob White emerged as a Heisman Trophy candidate the following season; he finished fourth in the balloting. The signatures are 9s and 10s on an unlined index card. LeBeau is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2010. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 131.  Jack Kemp Autograph on 1962 Fleer Card #79. Kemp had great success on and off the football field, leading the Buffalo Bills to consecutive AFL titles in 1964 and 1965 and later serving nine terms in the U.S. House of Representatives and then as the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. His signature is strong and displays as an nm-m 8 against the background of the card. Authenticated by Kevin Keating. Kemp passed away in 2009. The card grades ex and itself is worth our

Lot 132.  Johnny Majors Handwritten Letter Commenting on the 1976 Pitt Team. In 1976, Major coached Tony Dorsett and his University of Pittsburgh teammates to the college football’s national championship. In a 2005 letter on Pitt Department of Athletics stationery, Major writes, “The 1976 Pitt Panthers were one of the greatest teams in football history. It had no weaknesses.” His signature, which follows, is a 10. Everything is written boldly in black sharpie. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 133.  Chicago Bears Jersey Signed by Anthony Thomas, 2001 NFL Rookie of the Year. Thomas set a career rushing record (broken in 2007) at Michigan before being drafted in 2001 by the Bears. Nicknamed “A-Train,” he rushed for 1,138 in his rookie season and was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year by Associated Press. He left the Bears for the 2005 season, and since then, has played for Dallas, New Orleans and Buffalo. Thomas’ signature in silver sharpie is large and bold on the back of a Bears replica jersey with his name and number. He signed on the “5” of his uniform number, 35, and added “ROY01” and “A. Train.” His signature is a bold 10 authenticated by Kevin Keating. A CoA from Authentic Sports Investments accompanies the jersey.

Lot 134.  17 University of Maryland Football Programs, 1929-92, Plus 5 Media Guides. Eight programs are from the 1950s and earlier. For the two earliest programs, one for 1929 and the other for 1932, the Terps’ opponent was Western Maryland College, which became McDaniel College in 2002. The 32-page 1929 program is missing the front cover, and the back cover is just holding on. One Western Maryland player pictured is long-time Penn State Hall of Fame Coach Rip Engle. The program interior is g-vg; the grade for the 1932 program, which has its cover, is also g-vg. Other early programs are for 1935 vs. Georgetown, vertical fold, vg to vg+, and 1953 freshmen vs. Bullis School, ex. One of the most desirable programs in the collection is from the 1953 National Championship season vs. Washington and Lee. The 68-program is ex-m. The 1953 team went undefeated in 10 regular-season games. Right tackle Stan Jones, a member of the college and pro Halls of Fame, was a consensus All-American. Other 1950s programs are from 1954 vs. George Washington, photo of the undefeated 1953 National Champions inside, water stains, g-vg; and 1957 vs. Wake Forest, vg, and North Carolina, center spread missing, otherwise ex. The 1954 program has an ad for Tuffy Leemans Cleaners. More recent programs are 1960 vs. Clemson, small cover scuff, otherwise vg-ex; 1966 vs. Duke, g-vg; 1970 vs. Buffalo, vg+ to ex, and vs. Tampa, ex-m; 1972 vs. North Carolina, ex+; 1977 vs. Duke, ex; 1985 vs. Penn State (2), one nm and one ex; 1989 vs. Penn State, ex-m, and 1992 vs. Pitt, vg+ to ex. All-Americans Jack Scarbath, Dick Modzelewski, Bob Ward, Bob Pellegrini and Gary Collins are among the players pictured in the programs. The Terrapins issued the media guides in 1974, Randy White cover, ex; 1975 vg+, 1978 vg-ex, 1979 ex and 1987 vg. The first three of the 1970s teams landed in the AP Top 20, as did the 1954 team. Interesting collection of 22 items representing some excellent Maryland seasons.

Lot 135.  4 University of Maryland Yearbooks – 1938-40, 1951. The earlier yearbooks contain 6-14 pages of text and photos on football and four on basketball. Typical of much of its athletic history, Maryland had greater success on the court than on the gridiron in these years. The 1951 yearbook has 17 pages devoted to the 1950 football season, which was one of the Terps’ more successful. Loaded with future College Hall of Fame players, the team posted a 7-2-1 record. Eventual HoF players on the team were Dick Modzelewski, Stan Jones, Jack Scarbath and Bob Ward. Ed Modzelewski also was a member of the squad. The yearbooks are ex-m and better.

Lot 136.  1970s-2000s Maryland Football Memorabilia – Schedules, Pins, Pubs, Posters, Etc. More than 100 individual items. Paul Attner provides an overview of the school’s football history in his relatively scarce book The Terrapins: Maryland Football, 1975 apparent first edition, ex-m book and dust jacket. Photos: 2-11. 10 8” x 10” mid-1970s-80s b&w photos, eight with images of eight players and two with two images. Two sheets have two different images of Boomer Esiason. One photo is missing from one sheet. Others pictured include Willie Joyner, Charlie Wysocki, John Tice. Frank Reich, Mark Manges, Kim Hoover, Russell Davis, Larry Dick, and1976 All-American Joe Campbell, ex to ex-m. Pins: 12-17. Two different 3 ½” “Beat Navy” pins, vg-ex; a 3” pin and another pin vs. Penn State, ex, and a 2 ¼” “Maryland Terrapin Football” pin with the mascot in uniform, ex+, and a 3 ½” pin with the mascot, nm-m. Tickets: 18-22. For 1979 games vs. Virginia, Louisville, North Carolina, Penn State and Miss. State, ex-m to nm. Ticket Stubs: 23-32. Ten for 1980s games, f. Schedules (36): 33-67. Most are pocket-sized. 1974, 1984 (6), 1988, 1989 (2), 1990 (6), 1999 (4), 2001, 2002 (8” x 10”), 2003 (13 incl. 2 large magnets and 3 large stickers) and 2004 (large magnet). Lot 137.  Maryland Vintage Football – Ticket Stubs, Scarbath Autograph, Pins, Pubs, Etc. In 1952, Jack Scarbath teamed with Dick Modzelewski to lead the Terps to a 7-2 season and a Top 20 finish in the AP poll. Runner-up in the Heisman voting, Scarbath subsequently played in the NFL for Washington and Pittsburgh. He was elected to the College Hall of Fame in 1983. His signature is bold on an 8” x 10” photo that shows him wearing an All America sweater. He traced over part of the “J.” Scarbath is pictured on the cover of the accompanying Stanley Woodward’s Football 1952, full issue, ex+. Fifteen tickets or stubs span 1929-64. Among them are two complimentary tickets for the 1929 Maryland at Yale game, ex with score added; a Side Lines pass for the 1931 Johns Hopkins game, vg with minor writing on the blank back, and a full ticket for 1955 vs. UCLA, ex+. The stubs are for 1929 vs. VPI (2), 1929 vs. Johns Hopkins, circa 1935 vs. Washington and Lee, 1949 vs. South Carolina and George Washington, 1952 vs. Navy (2), 1956 vs. Baylor, 1957 vs. Miami (press ticket) and 1964 vs. Navy. These stubs average vg. Also, two 1 ¼” “Maryland” pins, each with ribbons and a football attached, one red and white, and the other black and gold, both ex-m. Also, a 1955 schedule with Bob Pellegrini and Ed Vereb, vg. A 1942 Autumn Carnival program with football photos, vg. Three issues of The Old Line monthly student magazine from 1932 vg+, 1936 ex-m and 1946 g-vg with outstanding football-related covers. And a seven-page 1954 article from Look.
