Lot 140. U. of Maryland Baseball and Lacrosse Memorabilia – 1918-19 Schedule, Etc. The university’s baseball program has produced a number of major leaguers. One of the most notable is Charlie Keller, outfielder for the New York Yankees from 1939-49. A .286 career batter who drove in more than 100 runs in five seasons, Keller played for Detroit in 1950 and 1951 and then concluded his career in New York in 1952. Keller is the subject of an article in the Sept.-Oct. 1948 issue of Maryland, the school’s alumni magazine, ex. Football is the subject of the magazine cover. A less-known major league player, Ray Knode, is among the Maryland players listed on a 1918-19 baseball schedule. Knode was a part-time first baseman for Cleveland, 1923-26. The 2 ½” x 4” 4-page schedule has damage to the upper, outer corner, including three small holes in the third and fourth pages. The school’s 1968 Baseball Guide (vg-ex) pictures Tom Bradley, who pitched for the Angels and Giants 1969-75. A basketball player, John H. Lucas, and a football player, Randy White, are the focus of 72-page program for the 25th Anniversary Banquet of the university’s M Club, ex-m. Lucas played in the NBA for 14 seasons and currently is an assistant coach with the LA Clippers. White is a pro and college Hall of Fame defensive lineman. Among others pictured are Bob Avellini and Frank Urso, who led the Terrapins to NCAA championships in lacrosse in 1973 and 1976. He is one of only four players in NCAA history to receive All-America honors in four seasons. Also, an eight-page 1968 Golf-Tennis Guide, ex, and the March 1985 Maryland Athletic Preview with All-American gymnast Jennifer Huff on the cover, ex-m. More than 130 items, primarily schedules, deal with lacrosse, including women’s lacrosse. Schedules are from 1987, 1991-94, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2002 and 2004. There also are programs from 1991, 2000 and 2001. These items average nm. Also, a 1998 calendar with photos from various sports and 1935-36 and 1940-41 partially used ticket books for Maryland athletic events.
