This 10 ¾” x 14 ¼” apparent albumen photo of the St. Mary’s, PA, high school football team is one of the two finest 19th century football photos that we have seen. Technically, the photo is outstanding; the focus and contrast could hardly be better. The condition appears to be nm-m. And the content is superb – 16 players, five wearing union suit laced-up vests, six wearing stocking caps and one holding a melon-shaped football. The mount, which has a gilt inside edge, shows some stains that add to the overall character of the display, which is framed to 17 ½” x 21 ½”. This photo will be an attention-grabber in any room.
