 Lot 142. Rare Turn-of-the-Century Princeton-Style Football Helmet. Very few of these helmets have survived since they first appeared more than 100 years ago. This youth-sized example displays well with pliable leather and stitching that is neatly accomplished. The felt on the inside is worn away, and the chin strap is missing. A manufacturer is not identified.

 Lot 143. D&M Circa 1930 Model 3H Football Helmet with the Original Box. Quality ex-m helmet with a strong Draper & Maynard dog logo in silver on the back. The felt inside shows some light soiling or toning, and the original chin strap is present. Like the helmet, the accompanying box carries the “3H” designation. It is fully intact with some creases on the sides and an indentation on the lid, where someone has written in pencil, “Do not throw this out.” Fortunately, people paid attention, and the helmet and box constitute a rare pair of very special football relics.

 Lot 144. Draper & Maynard and Wright & Ditson “Victor” Early 1900s Football Pants. Both pairs of pants have built-in hip pads and leather knee pads. The D&M thigh pads are removable, while the Wright & Ditson pads, which consist of four vertical panels each, are sewn in. The Wright & Ditson pants have two unusual features: felt and leather knee pads sewn inside and laces on the back that can be used to make each leg tighter. Both pairs of pants have the company label inside. The D&M pants are size 34, and the size of the Wright & Ditson pants is similar. Both pairs show good use and are dirt-stained. The D&M example has a couple of small holes and some tears to the felt inside. The Wright & Ditson pants are missing one leather external knee pad, and they have a 2” tear along one thigh pad. Excellent for display and for conversation starters!
