Lot 3. 1938 Cartledge “Famous Prize Fighters” Near Set of 42, Most Graded NM 7 or Better. High-grade NEAR set with 29 cards graded NM-MT or better. PSA graded one card MINT 9, #27, one MINT 9 (OC), #10, and one NM-MT+ 8.5, #31. Twenty-six are NM-MT 8: #1-8, 13, 14, 16 Mace, 17, 19 Doherty, 21, 23, 24 Fitzsimmons, 28 Armstrong, 32, 33, 37 Farrr, 38, 39, 42, 43, 45 and 49. NM+ 7.5 cards are #20 and 48. The NM 7 examples are #9 Molineaux, 19 Danahar, 25 Carpentier, 34, 35, 44, 47 and 50. Two cards received an EX-MT 6 designation, #36 and 46 Baer. The Cartledge set, with cards numbered 1-50, is actually complete at 52 cards. There are two boxers for #13 and #19. Both cards numbered 19 are in this collection, Doherty and Danahar. Missing are #11 Neat, 12 Ward, 13 Boone (Thompson is present), 15 Sayers, 18 Sullivan, 22 Corbett, 26 Dempsey, 29 Schmeling, 30 Louis and 41 Lynch.
